Pandora's Legacy

entry picture

Mind over matter

is the key

and so

with will of iron

Epimetheus

unwishes

the ills that she set free.

The world implodes

to fill an empty cask

tossed like flotsam

to a hostile sea

heavy lidded

sealed with sorrow

weighted with

unspoken words -

the water swallows…

Trembling from exertion

relief pervades

This day will unfold

like any other day,

tomorrow greet

with all the certitude

that dawn meets night

that dusk meets day.

Glass empties

smoke curls

climbs its way

into a leaden sky -

the world is saved.

Thanks for your comments all. I think I was trying to be too subtle. The idea behind the second verse is that - along with all the ills of the world, hope was sealed back up in the box. The world is safe but lacks that thrill - becomes monotonous and dull. The glass is a beer glass, the smoke, a cigarette. The last line is my attempt at irony.
Sorry if that disappoints any of you!

I like this one a lot Isobel. I can't quite get my head round the change that occurs between the two verses, tho. xx

You must think in poetry, Isobel. I do like it, the first stanza especially. For me, I could have stopped right there with a big sigh. The words were like a drugging elixir.

If they had asked The Bard to write "Pandora", then told him to submit the "treatment" this would be it.

Before breakfast? Good time of day to write, obviously. Enjoyed this, edited or not.

I love this Isobel... It is full of hope : )
Especially these lines:

'Mind over matter
is the key
and so
with will of iron
Epimetheus
unwishes
the ills that she set free.'

Hmmm... The more I read this - the more powerful it becomes... The hope is in the will of the outcome - regardless of how it is interpreted. I do see what it is you are alluding to, but unless it is totally obvious - It is just my nature to see the positive and the good ; )

This one was influenced by Banksy's version and I stole the title from Val Cook!
Written before breakfast, it could probably benefit from some editing but there is no time for that. Tomorrow it will be so yesterday! LOL
