Invisible

entry picture

How strangely comforting

to see you there

occupying space somewhere

breathing air, as I might

touching keys as I write

in flight from site to site

Letters on a screen

phantom of a long dead dream

orange face upturned in smile

available to all

but one

whilst I log on

grey this day

invisible to all.

We are living in a techno age arn't we. Could all this texting and icons stuff be replacing the old fashioned chatting up? Virtual dating... A bigger minefield than the real life equivalent I think. liked the sadnss in this one. It asks questions about 'is what we are all doing good for our hearts' win

Hi Isobel,
I'm not entirely sure why, but this brings to mind the kind of lyrics that George Michael writes - a good thing in my book. It conjures up the sweet and sour comfort that sometimes comes from old memories and the stark objectivity that time and distance bring. A good write - as usual.

Regards,
A.E. x

Connected only by mechanical visible words - a very 'unhuman' intercommunication. Yet, more honest feelings are probably shared in cyberspace than in any other medium since 'talking together' began. We might as well be ghosts in one sense; yet pure language has never been so powerful. I really enjoyed this, Isobel. If I start to sound like a jerk, just tell me.

Thanks for your kind comments folks. The cyber world is a strange one, isn't it? But it can provide comfort at times.

Chris - I would agree with you about the structure - I never gave it a second thought - this poem just plopped out like an unplanned birth. I keep meaning to plan them better - my best poem to date was a highly structured one. Best dust that Stephen Fry book down again LOL
Thanks again x

Smiley smiley.....there is something quite fascinating about logging on and wondering who else is out there. Like Pete says there is a strange comfort in the connection you get with other users.

I like this ... though I wanted the second verse to scan with the first. But the emotion I can certainly identify with.

Hi Isobel, I enjoyed the 'strange comfort' atmosphere. I like the concept, it evoked a feeling of a gateway to someone by means of emoticon, if that makes sense. Its gentle, feels calm

"how strangely comforting to see you there, occupying space, breathing air"

Great!
