ease your toes into the puddled sand

and squeeze the softness

between those baby bones!

you’re squeezing rock

you’re pressing eons

vast periods of time

trilobites and iguanodon!

and maybe somewhere

there are pieces

knocked out of the moon. . . .

a comets trail

a shooting star

a meteorite

all the way from Mars. . . .

a mermaids tail

bone from a whale

a thousand messages

lost from broken bottles

and a drowned mans fingernail. . . .

the Torrey Canyons sludge

rust from a Spitfires fusilage

ground up sailors skulls

a thousand anchors

crushed to iron filings. . . .

a million hulls

a trillion sails

and log books full of voyage details. . . .

and as your toes you flex -

Tyranosaurus Rex!

Hi Dave - and thanks for helpful comments. I promise that one day (when I maybe break my leg or am confined to home due to a slipped disc or something) that I WILL go back and sort out all my poems! I know I am usesless in this respect - but it's only cos I am new to this lark! Anyway, thank you and maybe I will redo! Lots of love anyway! Ann xx

I really liked the ideas in this, Ann, and the cast of mind it embodies of wondering at everything, of knowing that nothing is 'just' something. Everything has a story, sand is not just sand, it has a fascinating tale to tell. I do feel that you could have done more to do something special with the language to match the really interesting images and thoughts. I know you don't like going back on poems but really think this one might be worth it.
