NOTTON OPEN GARDENS 2020

entry picture

I laminate and post a few of these poems around the in-laws garden at appropriate points for this event.

Geranium Bed

I have a hobby bordering mania

Taking cuttings of gerania;

“Not so!” your criticism comes

It’s plural is geraniums”.

Bird Feeders

These little rhymes made up of words

Just pale beside the songs of birds;

We keep these feeders fully stocked

With seeds and nuts to draw the flocks;

Their splash of colour always pleasant,

We even have our local pheasant.

Golden Privet Balls

This nick-name’s one that will perplex

That you’d associate with Becks;

But you’d be wrong, you know-it-all,

For these are David’s Golden Balls;

He’s quite prepared, though, to forgive it,

Provided you accept it’s privet.

Summer House

And this is where we often laze

For hours on end on summer days;

To shade my eyes I’ll tilt my cap,

Then me and Maureen take a nap.

I thought that there was also a character called Hedges, which would have been good, but it turns out to be Hodges. Can't win 'em all.

Good stuff. Perhaps the third verse suggests André Previn?

Some skipping on the audio.
