After The Storm

entry picture

As rain falls heavy on the Cumbrian fell

down in the valley streams fill and swell

Storm clouds rock and roll across the sky

the magnificent River Lune is rising high

Thunder roars behind the forked lightning

a wild raw wind, furious, bitter and biting

Battered trees bend, creek, snap and crack

rainwater floods over submerging tarmac

Torrential downpours turn into a lighter rain

the wind subsides and soon it is calm again

In the distance thunder quietly rumbles on

tarmac emerges after the floodwater has gone

Grey clouds pull apart to reveal a hint of blue

beaming sun rays radiate, breaking through

The storm makes way for a welcome sight

an arc of colour a rainbow glowing so bright

Thank you for the likes and comments. It was inspired by this weekends horrendous weather which was followed by several stunning rainbows on Sunday evening. Perfect timing for the NHS anniversary.
