REFERRAL ORDER
I spoke to the Doctor
who was very direct
he assured me
that lab results did not lie
and so he referred me a specialist-
a board certified Mortician
no sense in arguing with
what is most likely probable
or postponing
the inevitable.

Short, sharply insightful and, in my view, very well written.
Just thinking: 'most likely probable' is still a door ajar to an unknown interior. The indomitable human spirit. An excellent inclusion banging against the final two lines.

It could be said that death is the tax levied on the gift of life. And like
every tax, it should be deferred for as long as possible. ?
