Seasons

The world begins in winter,
Barren, fresh and new,
Life begins in winter,
Hidden, obscure, but true,
All that was has been stripped clean,
Cleansed by snow and Ice,
Yet beneath that pale blanket,
Lies the first breath of new life,
.. ..
Spring comes in the brush of wind,
Peeling away the cold,
Life begins to reveal itself,
Be it brand new or ages old,
Blossoms spread their petals wide,
Buds poke from the trees,
Like a young childs seeking eyes they grow,
Absorbing all the light they see,
Each morning, in the sunrise,
Fresh, new things awake,
The young of the world start dancing,
From wombs and shells they break
The spring is ripe with innocence,
The world can do no wrong,
The birds, the trees and our children,
Fill the air with light and song,
.. ..
In the summer things are changing,
Colors become bright and bold,
The world becomes a strong new place,
Weaving stories waiting to be told,
In the summer of life, we are searching
Children long to set out on their own,
The outgrow the innocence of springtime,
Its astounding how the years have flown,
The birds are longing to leave the nest
Our children believe they are wise
That the ways of the world are defined as clearly
As bold foliage against a bright sky
The summer of life is adulthood
As they become part of the all
They are making their way in this loud world
Unaware of the impending fall
.. ..
Then autumn drifts in on a whisper
The leaves begin to change
We find an abundance of beauty
Always laced with something strange
The winds surely change direction
The sun spends less time in the sky
In a flourish of color, the world is somber
In a wave of glory, life prepares to die
In lifes autumn many years have passed
New families have been formed
Our children have learned many hard truths
And many loving hearts have been warmed
Their lives have been filled with color
Though the winds have often changed
They’ve found much laughter and much sadness
They’ve known beauty, joy and pain
As the trees send their roots deeper
Preparing for the storms
Our children extend their love deeper
Whether or not they’ve been forewarned
They feel winter encroaching
Its unfamiliar and fills them with fear
The leaves fall in golden showers
Tumbling away along with the years
But as the sun sets with each day passing
Shimmering gold illuminates memories
Of all the wonder life has shared
Beaming through the trees
.. ..
Then winter drifts down in snowflakes
Colors all fade away
The world becomes cold and white and new
The sky is quiet and gray
The animals go into a deep sleep
Flowers hide safe in their seeds
There is loss and pain in the shadows
Its hard but its what the world needs
In the winter of life old souls are passing
Making room in the world for our young
Beneath glittering blankets of white ice
The old gives to the new things begun
Yet the past still lives on in the memories
Of the trees, the stars, a child
And all the love that there ever was
Remains like a weed and grows wild
Winter is when all of life starts
Things begin in that pristine world
And all the beauty is worth the brief heartaches
As the seasons of life are unfurled.

Maride you have sensitively encapsulated natures cycle of birth and rebirth succinctly in this well narrated poem.

An enjoyable read.

A really worthwhile journey through the seasons of life - with some
emotive evocations to enjoy along the way. A poem for the fireside
when the dark comes early and the rain patters against the window
pane.
