LA VIE EN ROSE

entry picture

(I thought this site needed a poem in foreign.  An homage to our trusted friends across the Channel)

Quand il me prend dans ses bras

Il me parle tout bas

Je vois la vie en rose

Edith Piaf, petit pain

And Zinedine Zidane

Depardieu with grand nose

No-one likes Charles Aznavour

Don’t mention Agincourt

It makes them tres morose

Ballets and Calais, aussi Charles de Gaulle

I’ve had it with Brexit, it’s “Non” after all;

Honi soit qui mal y pense

Was Asterix from France?

Merde! Zut alors!

Who the hell’s Anne Fairey Anne?

Frogs’ legs and verre de vin

And stuff yer Marseillaise

Sur le pont de Avignon

You say C’est si Bon

Tray bien and qu’est-ce que c’est

Citroen and Renault Dauphine

Pas ce soir Josephine

I don’t want a dose

Oui oui it’s gay Paree ho ho ho ho oo la la

Bonjewer mon sewer ho ho under twar er

Shut up shop for Bastille Day

Le quatorze juillet

La Vie en Rose

.

Inky pinky parley voo?

Ya lost at Waterloo

Air traffic control’s closed

Boney Part and cul-de-sac

Pommes de terre, cognac

Et beaucoup quelque choses

Pair o’ knees and Notre Dame

Well, that went  up in flammes

Despite les pompiers’ hoses

Calais il est ferme, aussi Prince des Parcs

I smell something burning; is that Joan of Arc?

Don’t include Hercule Poirot

(He’s Belgian, don’t you know?)

La Vie en Rose.

Thanks, MC. How she gets the power into her voice from that little frame beggars belief.

I'll quote Old Will Shakespeare
To make my view quite clear
Measure for measure
You're a WOL treasure
Guaranteed to bring us cheer!
Bon chance, mon ami.
P.S. Thanks for the Piaf clip -superb. It also reminded me of my fondness for another
French song used to great effect in the film "Das Boot" - "J'Attendrai" (I Will Wait For You").

MC - Her voice gives me a hard on. Tremulous power. This is another favourite of mine, Les Trois Cloches. We know it as Little Jimmy Brown.

Kev - I am a polyglot.
And thanks for the Like, Hannah.

John,
I didn't realize you were such a linguist (a cunning one at that)
The entente cordiale needs more like this

The first thing I did after hearing this (and grinning like a kid) was to press the ";like" button. Shades of "1060 and All That" - set to
music that matches it perfectly. A favourite recording from across the
Channel is Charles Trenet's "La Mer" but this famous ballad comes close in Piaf's version.
