Peace Officer

Another black man killed

only this time

not by cops

in fact

he was a cop

David Dorn

38 years of service

still serving his community

gunned down by assailants

for the crime of

being a cop

he had a wife, Ann Marie

he had a family

5 children, 10 grand-kids

he was an upstanding citizen

helping poor kids and disadvantaged youth

helping others whenever he could

he was an example of a good decent man

a good cop

loved by all

yet that was not enough

he was gunned down in cold blood

while rioters ran the streets

we must honor David Dorn

and remember him

a respected black man

whose only crime was wearing a uniform

he will get no notice

he will not have people leaving flowers

on a sidewalk shrine

he won't be portrayed as a martyr

or become a cause celebre

he will not have Hollywood stars or politicians

attend his funeral and talk in glowing terms

about his life

he died alone

on the sidewalk

a candle abruptly extinguished

snuffed out in a single shot

all for a flat screen TV

David Dorn

an American hero

a "Peace Officer"

may he forever

rest in peace.

What most people fail to realize is there are good people inside the police departments just following orders, just as their are good men in both armies of a war.

It would be a better world if good and bad were divided neatly with a line but they are not and never can be, they mix and match and blend together in every man, in every army much like the river and the silt it carries.

This perhaps is the greatest tragedy of all.

Well said as a timely reminder that his agenda as a victim was being
a source of social cohesion and protection in his duty as a law enforcement officer. So right about the absence of the "showy"
support of what HE stood for.
