She Screamed for Help but you did Nothing

She Screamed for Help but you did Nothing

(Kim Murphy, an Adelaide mother of three, was murdered by her ex-partner in a domestic violence incident (April 2020). Her screams for help were ignored. A sad reflection of today's society)

You heard her scream for help

But no-one ever came

You heard her screams of anguish

Her life's now ended, slain

Why did you not investigate?

Find why she was in pain?

Because of this she now lies dead

Yes, hang your head in shame

It seems society has changed

Not like it used to be

I cringe at what it's coming to

I cringe at what I see

As poet I can't change the world

Can't change society

All I can do is document

What I observe, I see

Tragic.
No scream should go unanswered.
Reminds me of something I heard about New York.
Someone cried out for help and everyone assumed someone else would respond and no one did.
Good writing Don.

There is a time when "minding my own business" is inadequate
for why nothing was done in such tragic circumstances. Of course,
we do not know the "history" behind this awful event, whether there
had been previous verbal excesses that may have blunted the
reactions of those who could have helped in some way but chose
not to. That said, we all have 'phones these days so why not use
one to report what was being heard?
