Birdsong

I sit and wait for the sunrise,
For todays virgin light to shine from its celestial height and warm me,
Because it’s true to say that the light of day will drive away this cold , endless night before me,
And it will shine bright,
Bright enough to shine a light on all my past mistakes and inform me,
How much I should give thanks for the light that warms me,
A chance to repay the kindness of those who have forgiven us,
For all the things that we got wrong,
For every way that despite our failings, they tell us we still belong,
And so do they,
We all see the sunrise on a new day,
A new chance to show the world what we’re made of,
To stand hand in virtual hand and accept that that’s enough,
To understand that the limit of proximity doesn’t limit the extent of our love,
For all that lies before us,
For family and friends that we adore and in return adore us,
For the birds to see the breaking of the light and celebrate the sight in chorus,
And we stand, and we listen, for no other reason than we can,
Because it would be a crime not to take the time and reverently listen to the song they sang,
And its melody will ring in every ear that takes the time to hear and serenade us all,
On the rooftops and the balconies and gardens of the world we’ll hear their call,
And know their song is shared,
By all that quietly stand and stare at the sunrise,
And in our eyes its light will shine,
Divine,
And we will know the birdsong,
And we will know it together in the light of the rising Sun,
All ears, together as one.

Thanks Po and thanks Ruth, we're all united by the sound of clapping at 8pm, but also by the dawn chorus, and I think if nature chooses to play us all a tune, the least we can do is listen.

Really enjoyed this poem Jason, it feels like a meditation on sunrise & birdsong and is full of hope & blessings for a brighter tomorrow!
