This is excellent. It's not very subtle but it's so funny and deep that the poetry police will leave you alone. Don't worry about your oppressors!

This goes straight to the issues of performance poetry. How to read, the different styles of poems, and the different styles of reading them (I'm still uncomfortable calling aural poetry "performing", unless the poet is someone like Pete Crompton, in which case it is entirely appropriate). As for the "poetry police" you're right to diss them at the end of the piece. Well done for turning a wittily forensic eye on the poetry scene. Hope you do go to the Tudot again though. I shall be back some day soon.

Thanks to everyone. I would have put a voice link here but don't have the necessary equipment. As it says above, if anyone wants to give it a shot at the Tudor it's fine by me but my Tudor days are over.

Liked this Janet, appeals to my sense of humour, as one who as done the grand total of two , yes folks thats right, two spots in total I am still at the stage where I need notes , unless of course they are three or four lines only.

A fun poem Janet - would agree with Cate - the Tudor will love it! Some people manage to forget their lines with style though- Alan Grey never seems to get ruffled - and a few others I could mention. Unlike me who just curls up and dies at the slightest unexpected hurdle. Keep meaning to have another bash at remembering .. maybe next year.
