Laura, sometimes front line capitals just feels right. Perhaps it is the subject here, so universal and simple, which maybe requires those 'standard rules' to which readers will immediately relate.
And nothing is more universal than fairy tales. Or mythology - sort of the same point... sort of.

Reads like an old fairy story this, which is comforting in itself.
Can I ask why you've capitalised each line?

I'm not so old that I can't spell folks' names
correctly!
Age is still just a number for many of us oldies! And how lucky we are when recalling
those young men like my maternal Uncle Nick,
killed in August 1916 in the Somme campaign...
aged just 24...and whose name I proudly heard
read out at a rain-swept Tower of London among
the ever growing field of poppies a few hours ago.

Cynthia, I love the tone of this. "I have music to hear/ And words to be read"...yes! Carpe diem, Blessed Man ;) By the way, I left a response on "I Feel Fall". Thanks for your comments.

There's a lot to be said for contentment and appreciating just what you have as much as being aware of what you haven't.
This is a very enjoyable piece Cynthia. I like its simple affirmations and the fairy tale style of it - it reads a bit like a fable.
