Thanks so much to Keith, Julie and Stephen for your kind comments and to Holden for the like. This poem took me by surprise, actually. I hadn't realised I thought this, until I started writing it. It is based around the bible story Keith noted, but it also flows from a feeling that people's vehemence against 'sin' corresponds to how much they are trying to cover up their own culpability, Just a thought...π

It's a fair point and a fine poem, John, although I suppose there are different degrees of sin. White lie vs Big Lie, for example. But I think we all understand that no one is squeaky clean. Except me, of course!

John, this excellent poem is almost scriptural in its content which makes it very credible indeed. The last line says it all. If I remember correctly when Christ said these words, as Mary Magdalen was about to be stoned, it was the elderly men who were the first to walk away as they knew their sin.
