Thank you Cynthia , it is a light-hearted commentary on life, how one second or one word can change things, also how misinterpretation is so easily made.
I like the comment on keeping a better movement with the ending ee sound. Brilliant , thanks.

I can't tell you how many times i've read 'my space'. Still discovering something new each on each read. I love the subtle rhymes in it particularly and the repeated slowing down lines. (Repeated doesn't feel quite the right word but hopefully you'll see what i meant by that comment). :-)

cynthia, thankyou for the best review I have ever gotten. i am touched that you appreciate that poem, as regarding usage of words - it really is whatever spurts out of my heart and if its there, then its right for me at the time. i rarely touch a poem after i have written the first time, i really like the magic of it and greatly appreciate your work.

Hi Cynthia,
in answer to your question on my poem.
I don't know either. I can say in all honesty that the poem wrote itself. It sat on my desk top for two days before posting it because i thought there was more to come. I know how it makes me feel and i now have some idea of what it means to me personally but the fact that Nicky and Francine and others saw something for themselves in it says it isn't just for me and was right to share it. Whatever anyone takes from it or wants to see in it is for them to see and decide for themselves what it means to them.

In this case as they say - I just write the stuff. :-)
Thanks for your interest and comments.

Hi Isobel, thank you for your comment on the piece, I am quite taken aback at the response.

Would like to know what you think about Darren's suggestion that I change it to the third person? do you think that it would reduce the alienation aspect that a reader may feel or would it at the other end of the spetrum, lose it's rawness in the substitution of she for I. I am struggling with this one.x

Gus , thank you for your comment on my piece.

I am quite taken aback at the responses to it, I feel that my pain is no more than any other's pain who have suffered through the loss of a loved one.

Some say that 'time' is a great healer, but is it the time that heals? Or do some of us just develop broader shoulders and thicker skins? Or others of us just block it out?

Darren thinks that I shoul change it from the first person to the third person. Would be interesting to know what you think.

'Where do we go from here' really interests me, however I fear that, at this late hour that the analytical blob in my dull grey matter has snuggled up to the nonsense blob and once the two of them get together I spew forth a skip load of twaddle. The concepts of time and place and time and existence fascinate me. I

Nicky, your pain, your intolerable pain
has been to a small, nay minuscule way, off loaded.

I have read your tragic and sad account and take on board some of that pain due to your courageous recording of that sad day.
Having read it and read again and again it will remain forever with me.
No pain that I can imagine could be worse,
I pray that poetry has been in some way a cathartic catalyst, a tiny release of pain and anguish, even though it can never be of any lasting comfort.

My heart goes out to you.
Thank you for feeling strong enough to share your most intimate and private of tragedy with you fellow poets.

Gus

Helpless, still, like their is something missing from my life Cynthia, a feeling that never goes away, not from a 'woe is me' perpective, I have four beautiful children, Nathan is my second. But will always wonder what he would look like, how he would grow, what he would be interested in. Grief never goes away and time does not heal it just broadens ones shoulders and increases one's pain threshold. ( don't get me wrong their are many times that my emotions pour out and I may sit and cry and I question the why's and wherefores regularly)

Darren's critique is interesting and maybe I may try the she/he layout. let me know what you think.

Hi Cynthia,

Thanks for your comments on "Beyond the Equinox." It's good to wax lyrical sometimes - stretches the muscles of the imagination. Your "Peacock" is a very ornate still-life; I find it very different to your previous work, perhaps because of the subject matter. I think most of us benefit from attempting a new approach occasionally.

Regards,
A.E.

Hi Nicky,
Thanks for your message on my profile page. I wouldn't worry too much about the discussions - there have been some really heated ones on here - and they're usually the best kind that we learn the most from. What's the point of having an opinion if you don't discuss it with anyone and hold it up for inspection? That's how opinions are formed - and changed, surely? Feel free throw any crit you like at my scribblings, "myspace" is not particularly representative; I like to play with all kinds of form and subject matter.
I'm glad you "stirred it up" a little!
Regards,
A.E.

I would be very honoured to take a sneak preview of yours Anthony. Will try to be more critical than I normally am. I am not as experienced at it as you or knowledgable about poetic form but I will give it my best shot. Other than the poem I showed you which I still haven't got round to looking at - I have nothing in the pipeline - I will try to get that one done some time next week. I also need to focus my attention on writing rather than discussing - it is so easy to get caught up in all that. Lovely to see and hear you back on the scene.

Hi Chris - not really sure how to get in touch with you since you don't have a profile yet. You left a comment on my profile. I am touched that you bothered to read my poetry - particularly after my crass comment. To read past poems you need to go to the bottom right hand corner of the current blog. The previous poem will be highlighted in blue. If you click on it it will take you back and you can go right back through a poets work that way. I'm glad you liked the one you read - that one meant quite a bit to me.
Most poets on this site have had some trauma in their lives, though perhaps not on the same scale as yourself. Emotional turmoil is often what brings us to poetry in the first place. We are therefore, on the whole, very understanding and supportive of others. This site, in some ways, mirrors life. You will find the good, the bad, the ugly and the mischevious....but above all, a home for everyone. I hope you join and enjoy it.

Hi Anthony,

I just wanted to drop a line your way to say thank you for your commments on the 'catharsis' discussion thread. I was beginning to think I had created a monster, and I was only testing the water, as I am new on the site. I unwittingly, did not realise that I needed a few more swimmingly lessons beforehand in order to outswim the sharks. 62 comments later, I have the lovely Janet to thank for finally understanding the original slant on the question, - I didn't think that it was that obtuse, and certainly did not expect what I got - and also you to thank for pointing in the right direction and bringing enlightenment.

Have only glanced at your poems, but I do thimk your writing style is quite unique, 'myspace' flows like a stream of conciousness and has a very raw, existential flow about it. I have only read one poem (recent one that is) on this site that I could compare it to, and that would be Steve Mellor's 'Life-Line'. Simply for the pure continuous flow of the poem. I cannot comment justly on the content as yet as I have not had the chance to digest it and am all wrded out. an effort to put a comprehensible sentence together at the moment. Large glass of wine is in order.

Thanks once again. Nicky

Hi Cynthia,
Thanks for your comments on my recent blog, very much appreciated.
I hadn't thought of the poem as sarcastic, I had thought of it as a little bit sad. What I was trying to do was to have the reader believe they were reading a love poem, only to realise at the end that the love was somewhat abusive, if you see what I mean. It didn't work anyway, so I've taken it off and I'll have another look at it in a while.
Hope you're well?

Hi Cynthia, Thankyou for your comment re "kids in buckets", very ecological and my neices liked it. I have a series of garden poems for kids but no idea how to start re publication. I love your site and have read it a few times. I think I like the freshness and flight but association of ideas. My favourites, if you dont mind my saying , are "3 am on an old computer," ( we have all been the mouse there!), "last night I heard a squwark" very moody, and "the last verse" which is so softly touched and touching. May you continue to see the world in its originality.

Isobel, I shall let you into a little secret. As my two year old son would say 'I luff you'. lol - obviously not in a romantic sense - but in a ' someother sense' I cannot quite find the correct word. Really enjoy the discussion, although, as I said, I fear I may have created a monster. I suppose that is the way discussion threads go - and I do not like the elitist take on the thread - however, thats by the by. I mean't to leave a comment for you earlier on your profile, (but dinnertime took over and I am struggling with a certain project I have going) to say 'this comment is not personally aimed at you' regarding the reference on the engaging with the website thread, before you took up your guns and started aiming at me again, lol, but you beat me to it. No 'handbags at dawn' tonight, to quote Russell I think, was it? I would like to discuss something with you, do you mind if I contact you direct by email? Please let me know either on profile or by email.

The layout... as well visually pleasing, it aids my reading back in order that I pause for effect and read at a pace which suits the poem to performance.
