Hi Val thank you for comenting on my John Donne poem - having studied the man in some depth I found his age a fascinating one even though I wouldn't want to have lived then - did a walk with my daughter today along a Surrey canal near Pyrford where there was a plaque commemorating his place of residence in the 1600s hence my motivation to write about him

Hi Greg thanks for commenting on Eastbourne Etchings and glad you enjoyed Smart Casual in particular - my plans to visit Reading this evening foiled disappointingly by a tickly throat and cough which might prove problematic to readers but was truly grateful for the offer of a lift - perhaps next time

Hi Dave, many thanks & glad you liked it (zen)
In that case - if you are feeling "receptive" I posted another gem a while back, but not mine, - by a guy called David Harsent - you may know it already, but I wanted to share it with WOL community as a little nugget, but it never got a word! - Hope you like it.... for me, poetry doesn't get much better than this.
David Harsent
Red
The skim on the surface of your soup, or the cut on your plate
in the Café des Anges, juices swamping the willow-pattern skiff
as she dabs her mouth with her napkin, your blind, blind date,
leaving a smudge, lipstick-and-gore, though there’s still a worm
of gristle in the gap between her teeth.
Mood music, candlelight, wine, low voices in a world of harm,
the creature brought down, hindquarters heavy, hind legs
broken by the dogs, its head held up, eyes wide,
the tangle and drag as a gralloch knife unpegs
the bulk, all slippage and seepage, and the way she thumbs
a morsel into your mouth, or smiles your smile
back at you, lets you know that everything’s just as it seems,
then back at the small hotel, she strips off quicker than you
might have hoped, pink as a new-skinned cat, all too
eager to have you by heart. Her cry tells you nothing new.

Forgot to say, drim is totally made-up. It came into my mind and felt /sounded so right I just couldn't replace it successfully. But in a way using a word like that is what Neg cap is all about. Wiki it for a decent definition. XX

Win, thanks for your comments. I think that "the other" sounds stronger than "another". I am proposing a complete turn around, a 180 degrees, not just another direction. Does that make sense, come across? That's the idea and rationale behind it anyway but if it works..? XX

Ann, thanks for your kind double comments. I really appreciate and value your words. Drim is a made-up word. Although it does exist in welsh! It just sounded so right & once it popped into my mind I just couldn't get rid of it and nothing else would do!XXX

Greg - yes, they are spookily alike. Larkin was often funnier, I gather. While working in the same bookshop I also met Margaret Drabble and Phil Drabble, but I was OK with telling them apart because only one of them was carrying a badger. Margaret.
Winston. It's the hat, yes? Compelling isn't it?

Hello Isobel,
Thanks for the lovely comment on the 'Dettol' poem. Yeah, I think you've trumped me with the Big Bad Dom advert. Domestos always did have a nicer smell as well. But, that says more about me than it does about the two products... Thanks again for the Welcome!

Hi Elaine;
Glad you like 'Summer is here'.. I agree totally with your comments here and it sums up what I was attempting to do.. I wrote it the other week at lunch when I got really, really
wet on the way back to the office and it sort of summed up my feelings towards the british summertime..
Thanks again x

Hello Andy.
Thanks for your suggestions on my poem "The Price of Freedom". I have posted an extended version.
I have never posted this version because a family member told me it was too wordy.
Anyway time will tell.

Welcome to WOL, Jess. Your performances at Wigan and the Bards were striking, and it's interesting to read here what we heard. It works on the page too! You've set yourself some big challenges but made a very good start. Keep at it.

Andy, well, the very thought of you, red-faced! Thank you for your kind comments on "Dark Words". You are right of course. I didn't really write it to be read so much as for myself to perform so I shall take another look. XXX

Cynthia, thank you for taking the time for such a full critique which was great - many thanks. It is always a privilege for me when someone takes the time to really look at a poem of mine. I don't disagree either! It was a bit of a throw away piece for me and was more about the performance than the poem but I shall take time to look again. Hope you and yours are all well. XXX

Hi Tom , you need to change your biog now that you are a spoken word superstar! great to see you and Bob at Butterflies, You did brilliantly. I will be back. As to 1971, many thanks for the comments. Different people like different bits of this somewhat disjointed effort. I think Iso's ideas of a reordering would created a more understandable time line. Also that bit you mentioned "When the naols bite..." I wrote at our table in butterflies! Houston x.
