The Destination & The Journey

Some roads lead nowhere

But without a sign to tell us otherwise, we will travel down them

Without hesitation

Until we arrive at the cliff edge, the end of the road

There is no road ahead that will lead me to safety

until now

Part of me knew that this is how it ought to be

Not a raging thunderstorm each night

Leaving me awake and tearful for the next clap of thunder

The next flood of rain

The next strike of light so quick

that it leaves us both in darkness, before we can even realise what hit us

But this isn't a storm

This is a summer breeze

Cool and calm and relieving

Like arriving home after a long day and that first breath escapes

from a tired body into open, welcoming arms

home

This is what safe feels like now

Two arms that hold me when the tremors shake throughout and I am no longer able to control them

The touch of your palms on my shoulder blades grounds me

to here and now and all that is good

All that I prayed for

I would risk it all for this one

Let the worries dissolve in his salt water sea

Get my hair wet and float back softly

Dive from the highest places

Only to drench myself in these lazy waves

Let my heart beat slow

There is no risk of drowning here

Some roads lead nowhere

but after the u-turn

I finally found myself

now here
