Read to your children

but do not read to your dog

your children will always remember

your dog will just scratch

and take a nap

 

dogs are not literary animals

they'd sooner chase cars

or watch the Nature Channel

on TV

 

they do not care for books

even coloring books

 

they have their eye

on squirrels and birds

and other creatures

that come onto their turf

 

reading to a dog does no good

they just don't get the concept

to them it's as boring as dry dog food

 

dogs are man's best friend

but they are not good readers

they are not inclined to go to college

or pursue a degree

they'd just as soon stay illiterate

and lick themselves

 

dogs have no ambition

they are happy just being dogs

 

they are comfortable

in their own fur.
