Maybe I'm Crazy, Maybe I'm Not

Maybe I'm crazy

Maybe I'm not

Maybe I'm writing

Just silly old twat

Talk about confusing

For twat we say twot

Queen's English? damn silly

Methinks tommy rot

How can a poor poet

Like me write good verse

With tommy rot English

To rhyme, to converse?

I'm trying real hard

Poetizing (not lazy)

But damn Queenie's English

Is driving me crazy

I'm getting all twisted

Tied up in a knot

Cos knot should be not

(I think I'll boycott)

So maybe I'm crazy

Or maybe I'm not

Maybe there's genius

Somewhere I forgot?.....

There is no great genius without some touch of madness” (Aristotle)

English is the finest language in the world! If only we had copyrighted it instead of allowing the rest of the world to use it free of charge. We could have been earning billions in royalties.

The English language is certainly not easy to grasp as it seems
to possess no logical consistency.
As lyricist Ira Gershwin famously wrote about pronuncing either and eyether; neither and nyether (my emphasis via spelling) - it is often
confusing, even to the natives!
Give me your dough
But not your doe
But don't think enough
Should rhyme although
Could that last word be althuff?
(Is that plain enuff for you to see
when not referring to a yew-named tree?!) ?
In short -
The English language offers a profusion
Of ways to fall prey (so pray!) to confusion!
