South Australian Bushfire Crisis

South Australian Bushfire Crisis

Today has been labelled catastrophic

Fire danger on the scale to its max

Winds and a 40 degree temperature

Everyone alert, no-one lax

What causes these fires to begin with?

Dry-lightening strikes are their cause 1

Some accidents cause sparks, (also start them)

And arsonists who light fires just for fun

Today catastrophic came to my state

60 homes became ash on the ground

While Nature blazed a path of destruction

One person died, defending, staying round

PostScript

Australian bushfires are different to grass fires. They are much fiercer, racing through eucalyptus-laden treetops causing trees to explode.

On the day referred to in the poem, tens of thousands of lightening strikes sparked dozens of bushfires across our tinder-dry state amid catastrophic fire conditions that left authorities on edge. More than 600 firefighters tackled at least 120 blazes, the majority sparked by electrical storms.

Kangaroo Island (video) is just off our coast. The fire is out of control. Two trapped people died in their car. Fires rage in other states. Just as catastrophic.

I have never seen or heard of such a thing as a fire twister before

Thankyou for your comments Tom an Po.

Thousand of sheep and cattle are having to be put down. Some are running out of ammunition. Thousands of dead animals line the roads in their attempt to escape. The island has lost half its koala population.

A disaster zone. Heartbreaking. And they say more scorching weather is on its way.....

I hope you're safe and sound Don. It's a true disaster. I'm sad for all the people affected and, as a huge animal lover, I can't help but think of all the creatures losing their lives and their families too. It's heartbreaking.
