Humanity Washed Ashore

entry picture

Refuges looking everywhere

for shelter, peace

and a morsel to eat

are driven away from all shores.

The sea-water has swept away

many hopes for life.

As ruthless currents overturn their boat

their bodies swarm the seashore

where vultures and death-eaters sit expectant.

They are thankful

to the inventors of war.

Today humanity has been crowned

while many dreams have been drowned.

The treatment of refugees and asylum seekers sicken me, they are used as scapegoats for political genders. This image haunts me as I know many others has ended up like this trying to escape to a better reality but met with xenophobia and hate. ?

Binte,

This heartbreaking sight tears at my soul. I cannot grasp why this should happen save for the ambitions of dictators and man's callous disregard for human life. Ghandi, whilst a lawyer in South Africa exhorted black and coloured people to burn their passes which entitled them to move freely about the country. As he was being arrested by the Police he said, "I think you'll find there is enough room for us all". This was in response to a racist remark telling him and fellow Indians to leave the country. The fact of the matter is that there is enough room for us all.

A poem of classic proportions yet so tragic.
Thank you for this

Keith

Thanks for commenting favourably. Yes, it's a bitter reality that humanity is rare in humans now-a-days. But let's not lose hope for a better tomorrow, a peaceful tomorrow ?.

Good to see you back on my screen Binte. This is a powerful write. True and sad. The lines

'where vultures and death-eaters sit expectant.

They are thankful

to the inventors of war'

are well crafted. To me......

Heartbreaking truth!! Humanity at it's lowest. Such a huge world, but no place for humans.
