Uluru

On ancient ground

stands this red red rock

sacred sandstone

dotted with fissures

cliffs and caves

left paintings of the past

which tell of the lands creation

like an animal

sleeping on its side

so large

so dramatic

it sparks the imagination

awakens our wonderment

could it actually be alive?

are we Lilliputians

standing on a gentle giant?

we must back off

and not disturb the rock

as old as time itself

there are ghosts and spirits about

who take offense at prying eyes

we must let it lie in Dreamtime

a totem of a people's history

walk away and leave it in peace

this massive sleeping hulk

this red rock of Uluru

the original aboriginal

keeper of a people's

myths and legends

symbol of a continent.
