Donations are essential to keep Write Out Loud going

Player

Pupils steady, unflinching like a key lodged in the hole

with no traitorous jingling chain to dangle from.

Expect no truth from the player for such is the role

and such is the nature of stardom.

Shades and shutters meaningfully open wide showing

off the sparkling glass of feigned transparency.

Long scarlet velvet drapes falling heavy, not allowing

sight or view to the audience; lest they see…

The Player leads the dance, the room has been felt.

All steps choreographed from the start.

The Played meets defeat; cards needn’t even be dealt

For The Player may engage in games but never plays his part.
