PASSING THROUGH

The occupants of Parliament now think it's a place they own,

Not understanding they're temporary custodians of what has slowly grown

Into the rich repository of a trusting nation's history,

That governs in the people's name (that's never been a mystery!).

Instead, without a mandate (that's  permission!) from the nation,

They signed away what wasn't theirs to foreign domination,

Parliamentary sovereignty, trade and laws by which we live...

In short, the things we sought and won - that were not theirs to give!

And when the pressure of circumstance required a referendum

They sought to misuse and abuse it by introducing the addendum

That claims that "parliamentary sovereignty" upon which they now dote

Allows them to say we did not "understand" the reason for our vote.

In short, the game that they now play relies on what they gave away,

The comments are noted and appreciated.
Brian - point taken. I have to agree. But for the purpose of this
blog, it seemed appropriate to emphasise that they had the chance
to change their ways and blatantly passed it up for proprietorial reasons of their own.

Jason, you've got it all wrong my friend
Public servant's got naught to do with the public
But popping down for a serve at the pub after work
And having a drink in a goblet

Pollies use goblets cos they're upper-class....?

Here here - bash 'em over the heads with the Speakers gavel. Sever their savings accounts and give their earnings to the poor - before we shove them out of the door. Sod it - there goes my MBE. ?

They need to remind themselves that public servant means to serve the will of the public.
