Divine Sacrifice

entry picture

How gracious, giving, odd-a-Medea Mother Earth is, that casually allows

the sticky fingers of my offspring pluck hers whilst in their very prime

The sugary, inciting scent and sanguine, blush flesh ominously arouse

their uninhibited watering glands and ushers them to a gluttonous crime.

What a ruthless, audacious Demeter is I who reaps and sickles the seed

-the splendid fruit that through much anguish emerged off Gaia's womb-

so mindless of her splitting labor pains I accept the sacrificial deed

and gratefully let the belly of my child be another mother's child's tomb.

Sometimes one has to let it out, dear Adam! I will visit your profile and read your angry pieces! But you have a point, wallowing on all these unpleasant emotions doesn't do much good. Writing them away though, that is pretty powerful! Thanks for liking and commenting ?

I read back over what I have put on WOL and there seems to be wrath...or grief...a plenty. While you were away I put a poem titled ICE and another called The Times...best I can say is that I felt a bit better after writing but even more important I think is that I was more able to focus on the bloom of lady beetles that appeared near the little yellow spiders on the fencepost...so I hope to put more energy into observational metaphorical work and less into verbal reflection of the House of Horrors we inhabit.

Thanks for taking the time Devon! I'm kinda two torn between two versions... It looks like what I accidentally said in the first version though it didn't quite reflect my sentiment at the time, appears to have stirred something greater than I intended... People are really angry with the state we have brought the planet to. I read poems filled with wrath about what we have caused. But I haven't been able to write about it myself so far. I think I will ponder some more and maybe I'll try to recapture the spirit of the first version. Maybe through a different piece. It's time I joined in. Thank you again Devon!?

Mae,

I love the poem in both iterations. Your nip and tuck has certainly changed my interpretation of it. Keep it up!

Joy to wake up to a friend's words. What a wonderful piece of writing.

I do not recall the name of the book but set in Alaska and written by an indigenous man much was said about the gratitude towards the earth towards the creator and towards the animal whose sacrifice fed the people. I try to hold that attitude towards food but rarely do I think I have carried it towards fruit. I wish one could pictures in comments as our plum tree gave us almost 30 pounds of the sweetest fruit this year.

True dear Jason! I realized it came a tad too angry and somewhere along the way I forgot to express my gratitude. We exploit the earth we live in to the fullest as it is, at least we should say "thank you". Hopefully we are on our way trying to be kinder to her, protect her from the greedy of our societies.
Thank you!?

Too let the belly be another mother's child's tomb. What a beautifully crafted line and relevant to everything we eat, and everything the huge lumbering beast called society eats and every soul that's eaten up by the ravenous dragon of war, and in all that we're ok as long as it's their child and our belly,

So many layers.

I wouldn't say angry...Graphic maybe... perhaps a little nip and tuck is in order, to
better divulge the message. Hope this is better!?

Mae,

Glad to see you back and with such force. This piece is stunning, brutal and angry.
