Sitting On The Shores

Sometimes we need to sit on the shores of an ocean to remind ourselves how small we are,

To stand under vast open skies that stretch from the promise of tomorrow to the memories of the night before,

To insignificantly piss in the driving rain against the foundations of all we know and all we are,

And gaze fifty thousand light years into the past luminescence of a star that probably isn't even there anymore,

Sometimes we need to gain some perspective on the trials and tribulations of the passing days,

And try to understand that though to us they are vast and seem without end,

That each battle scar life gives us as we navigate its wild and twisting ways,

Should remind us that we're all players in a story we don't fully comprehend,

And surely in that knowledge there must be some comfort yet,

For we have no idea of the traps and gifts the future holds,

But the tiny trappings of our daily toil can lead us to forget,

That though our life is small it is a thing of beauty to behold.

Thanks Mae, I was definitely in deep reflective mode for this one. Sometimes you do need to say to yourself, "It is what it is."
Thank you for the constant support, honesty and friendship that both you and Heart Of Lead have always given.

Every single word of this poem is impeccably placed, sharp as a razor, universal notions. I have no words. This is a masterpiece! You seem to be writing many of those lately. But of all of them this definitely stands out as a timeless reflection of the human soul. Excellent ?

Thank you Heart, I can't tell you how many times I've sat at the shores and pondered life, usually in the middle of some heartache or other. There's something about the oceans that is so deeply reflective. I know that whenever I talk about water in a poem it always represents emotions, but then I think it does for everyone.

Oh I have certainly thought about the light of stars that are perhaps dead and gone. A brilliant poem. I like how this could be taken many ways but you still make it uplifting.

Jason,

This sets a much needed positive vibe on a Saturday morning as I sit here with coffee waiting for the sun to rise. All the nuggs are there, as Lisa has said. Thanks.

Oh I'd love to think so Lisa, which probably means I'm further away from it than everybody.?

Jason,
This whole poem is about clarity. Sitting on the shores, under the vast skies, the distant stars, searching for meaning and purpose. Perhaps you have found it and are giving us directions here?

Thanks Devon and Dorothy, wasn't sure about this if I'm honest, it feels like there's some nugget of clarity missing from it. I might be wrong, I'm always my own worst critic, (well so far anyway ?)
