Starchild's Keeper- A Sonnet

Father Thunder cracked, Mother Thunder struck!

through a cosmic tango, your divine birth!

And into a mad stellar chase I broke

begging to glow as your mirror on Earth...

I plunge into the ocean after dark,

and swim in this indigo-silver trance.

I relish in your splendor, hear the lark

his, a song of sorrow and jubilance.

though bittersweet it couldn't ever spoil

this new-found beauty that you brought to us!

Yours I am! All the struggles and the toil-

-yours! Humbly yours, sparkling Starchild! And thus-

I can nought but vow to ever cherish-

-and keep you always. Until I perish.

Thank you Alaia! Message from the stars huh? I like the sound of that! Though I wrote it for my goddaughter- proud godmother alert!- the reader's interpretation is to my experience most of the times better, deeper and more beautiful than the writer's intent!
Thank you Alaia ?

Thank you for your kind words, dear Jason! The last couple of lines are my favorite too! Your words move me, thank you so much for the constant support my friend!?

"I can nought but vow to ever cherish-

-and keep you always. Until I perish."

I have read that line over and over Mae. The whole poem is truly beautiful and the finally brought together in those deeply poetic last two lines. For me they stand alone as a short poem in themselves, and make the perfect end to this poem.
It is such a pleasure to read out loud, such a pleasing set of linguistic twist and gentle turns.
There are so many great writers on WOL, and everyone has their favourites. I have three that I really love above all others and it's poems like this that are the reason why you're one of them.

From the work I've done exploring traditional forms I've come to the realization that though rules may be challenging and constricting, they kinda work like a rhythmic compass. They actually make your job easier. Free verse on the other hand, far more obscure, free indeed, deeper and harder to do! Love me some free verse!
Love me Vol 1 huh? Ingenious!
Thanks Adam!?

So fun to read aloud.

I know little of defined forms so am excited to try to push myself away from free-verse into something more disciplined (though I do endlessly edit the free verse for somethin akin to grace).

You mention palindrome...my favorite is one that Billy Collins mentioned at a reading....

Thanks fish! Devon is brilliant! I did my triolet, not sure I even did it right. But it's helping me further understand some elements of the English language! Devon is brilliant though, I can honestly see yet another POTW ahead for him!
Thanks fish?

Good one Mae.
Mae, Devon - On another site, starting April 2017 finishing August 2018, I posted 50 different poetry forms. I set myself the challenge to do it after reading a triolet someone had posted. I didn't rush or pressure myself, just fitted it in with real life. It was sometimes hard work but mostly creatively streaching and enjoyable to do.
Look forward to seeing what is to come.

Thank you Devon! I mean those words with all my heart, her mum is practically my sister! I can't wait till you do! How's the palindrome coming? Cam you imagine how awesome would it be if that became a thing?! Just awesome!
X.x.?

Great work, Mae! The formal challenge continues successfully. I am very fond of the line "Yours I am! All the struggles and toil - yours!" I'll track down another for you to work with. Does anyone else want to delve in brain-numbing poetic toil?
