The Benefits and The Perils

The benefits of The Surface, of staying relevant

are admitedly somewhat relative.

The perils of blending in- obscure yet eminent-

under the spotlight are in superlative!

You exist, You exist not, You exist, You exist not

Even numbers can be cruel.

Yourself, Your Avatar, Reality, Virtual or Absolute

Locked in an ongoing duel.

I'm glad that first of all it makes sense ? and secondly, that you find it had layers, you are very kind!
Thank you friend ?

No, I don't think it was either ambiguous or obscure, it's just lovely when each time you re-read something, you pick up something new. I love the layers.

Yes, at the end I realized it was all a bit ambiguous and obscure, I'll admit that! But all in all I'm quite happy with it!
Thank you Jason ?

Just love this Mae, "Even numbers can be cruel." I've had to re-read it five times to pick up all the little nuances. Clever.

Thanks Devon! Don't you just love rocknrollas? I'll say that though, for a rock an roller he's surprisingly humble to the point of shyness. He looks kinda nervous, doesn't he?
Loved the interview and the song. Now it's not exactly on the same subject but it reminded me of a piece I wrote a while ago, called "Consume or be consumed" . It's mostly about consumerism.
You were right I enjoyed the video and especially the song! ?

I think you are quite right. Sad really. Alienation as a social norm.

You wrote "eat or be eaten" in a previous comment - gonna share some fun music with you. The video is long, but the song is at the very beginning, enjoy:

Precisely. That complicates things even more! If perception of reality was obscure, misunderstood, intentionally misled and tampered with before, imagine how distorted it must be now.
Makes you think? Plus you can trust virtually nobody so one may feel the need to get wrapped in themselves, to keep everyone at arm's length. Ergo we learn to live alone, worse yet as loners.
Isolation of the individual grows fatter and vaster until it becomes alienation as a social phenomenon that includes or rather "excludes"everyone.
"Almost friends but all alone" like the "Say Something" song by James says!

"Isolation for my salvation,
Equals
Alienation for the nation"

As I would rather put it... in a literary incantation amidst a session
of obsession and elation for alliteration ??
(Such intense gratification!)

I think right on the money. Yet now, that dynamic extends for beyond the immediate neighborhood, into who we want to pretend to be, not as easily sussed out.

Thanks Devon! That's an interesting question...I think definitely! TV and before that radio and before that the press...Politics, modeling, business... Even the housewives in the neighborhood, either it was recipes or fashion they all had to struggle to stay in the surface... The frickin' struggle for evolution, survive or get extinct, eat or be eaten, be the Aplha or die fighting... Crawl out of the ocean and grow legs and lungs before that other fish does! Yeap, definitely an ancient thing!
What do you think? ?

Well said, Mae - and with style. Makes me wonder if this phenomenon existed before the internet. Any thoughts?
