Money

Money

Money makes you round eyed,

Or square eyed,

Money makes you open arms

And legs wide,

Money makes you feel dirty

Inside,

Money makes your scruples run and hide,

Money gives you lots of false pride,

Money makes you take friends

For a ride.

Money makes you blind

So you can’t see

Injustice and cruelty.

Money makes you treat people

Like toys

Money makes you act like naughty boys.

Money makes landlords

Demand high rents

So families end up in tents.

Money makes you hate

What you’ve become

Money strips life of

All fun.

Till you wish your course

Was run

Money is the bullets

In the gun

At your head

Spend, Spend

Now you’re dead.

Hope £ less

Soul £ less

Life £ less

What a £… ing mess!

This is a really strong piece with a powerful message, I particularly enjoy it when read out loud. Perhaps we could get one of your recordings of it on here.

thank you so much for the comments.
I think it's important for the history we learn to be frank and honest. Researching this poem gave me a new perspective on Elizabeth the 1st as well.....she was certainly her fathers daughter and not the glowing image of girl power I was taught at school......mores the pity!
