100 Stories for Haiti

entry picture

Over 100 authors and editors have helped compile a unique collection of stories which will be released as an e-book and paperback this Thursday, 4th March, the proceeds of which will go to helping the victims of the earthquake in Haiti.

Author Greg McQueen had the inspired idea of helping in this way when he felt he had to do something after repeatedly seeing news reports about the tragedy. Within hours of posting his idea on the micro-blogging website, Twitter, story submissions began arriving; and by the deadline, a week later, the project had received over 400 submissions. During the following week these were whittled down to 100, and the full 80,000 word manuscript was edited, and assembled, within just two weeks of Greg’s first announcement.

Nick Harkaway, author of best-selling novel ‘The Gone Away World’ (published by William Heinemann Ltd), was one of the contributors, and has also written the introduction:

“While giving is, according to a recent scientific study, more pleasurable and healthy than receiving, it can become a bit burdensome after a while – especially if you can’t see the real time effects of your gifts. That’s where this book comes in. The writers and publishers do the actual giving and you just have to buy some really great stories, which you would have rushed to buy anyway, because of the sheer weight of unrefined awesome contained within these covers.”

Exactly.
