Sunday Afternoon

Sunday on the front lawn

the weather nice and cool

and the family is out

playing ball with the kids

just like in the old days

The boys are the batters

the grandpa the pitcher

the son-in-law plays the outfield

chasing balls across the street

the wives are the cheering squad

looking on from their lawn chairs

shouting words of encouragement

Just like it used to be

they embrace this simple pleasure

the family having fun being together

time well spent

in the enjoyment of

playing baseball with the kids

on a beautiful Sunday afternoon.

It was Football for me
jumpers for goal posts
We were are own referee
There was no offside
Goal celebrations where a joyish fist pump nothing fancy
And when we lost
It was time for tea
Taking the ball
Which of course belonged to me
