WASHING LINE

Multi coloured pants and socks

hold sway upon my washing line

like an audience of tropical birds

anticipating the equinox.

Left overnight they turn to bats

like domestic acrobats.

And when the line is cleared again

I willl not wish them back again.

But should I hang such thoughts of mine

on any future visible line

I hope they'll have sufficient airing

presentable for public sharing.

Hi Trevor. I take your point about censorship and would not wish to imply that myself. Smut can be mildly entertaining and playful, but eroticism is a rather deeper thing which can be expressed in many ways, different psychologically, and more of a driver . Reading it again I can see there might be connotations of race or colour . I think the last stanza is just a bit mischievous and not to be taken seriously, can I say!

I much appreciate your challenging.

like the playful nature of this poem - however, I question whether we should censor on behalf of others perceived sensibilities [other than the obvious direct personal attacks]. Smut and eroticism are two different things, Trevor

I was in the garden sun and half swooning with a virus, so these thoughts are a bit LSD. There's still life in the old dog yet.

Thanks Dorothy. Everything about me is inappropriate I'm afraid. I rely on my wife for external cleanliness.

Brian , thanks for your frankness. Yes I always expose the dark side of humour, where the rind grows. We have to vary the diet sometimes.

I'll applaud those thoughts Rachel. You make some valid points. This habit of loud sharing on phones may end up like public smoking - not thanks not interested in inhaling your titbits etc.
In fact a lot of stuff goes on visually I think which cuts off communication . In some ways a form of castration.

Good thinking Stu. The thin end of the wedge, and overrated in my problem. Not that I'm not addicted now mind you.
Glad you liked the offering!

Hi David. You're ahead of me on the technicalities. Think of the parallels available "online" though such as this offering.
There is a back story revealed of course which I have teased out ! All my feminine items go straight to Sunlight Laundry of course - or even to the dry cleaners. (Or is that the same thing).

Cheers all you voyeurs.

Thanks for stopping by, Frances, Peter Jon and Heart of Lead.

I quite admire that, Stu. I put it off for a long while but finally gave in. Truthfully, I never wanted to be that "important" as to have to be interrupted. I mean, most conversations that happen by phone can wait, unless you're a medical professional on call or something else for which you get paid A LOT to be on standby.

Lots of pitfalls for those who value autonomy and privacy...

Like anyone really cares, but I don't think there is a greater annoyance than people who talk loudly and at length on cell phones in public places--and certainly no other somewhat minor annoyance that will make me any more confrontational.

That said, I don't share exactly the same sentiment regarding written disclosures--I can stop reading if or whenever I wish. Though, I still like to think that I reserve the right to protest when I feel it is due.

Everybody's got dirty laundry, Ray, as I'm sure you're wise enough to be well aware. But, none of us have the right to harass others through personal expression that would be better channeled through less public media.

..more than one analogy to be appreciated, here.

Thanks man.

Rachel

Ray - it's good to see you've got a frivolous one in you. (I assume it's frivolous...hard to tell sometimes with your stuff!) Anyway, I hope you've got a few more such pieces in you before you peg out (geddit?).

Ray
I hope your thoughts are pure - I don't want to see anything unclean on view to the general public.
