Loud and proud: marking Women's Day!

entry picture

It’s International Women’s Day today – and to mark the occasion Manchester publishers Flapjack Press are staging a free event at Manchester Central Library hosted by Rosie Garland and featuring Flapjack poets including Cathy Crabb, Sarah Miller, Anna Percy, Melanie Rees, and Genevieve L Walsh. Doors open at 5.30pm and it starts at 6.

Meanwhile the Poetry Book Society has come up with a list of “a few of the fantastic women from across the globe, we've been championing recently” to mark International Women’s Day. The list includes Rachael Allen, Amy Key, Sophie Collins, Tishani Doshi, Sinead Morrissey, Vahni Capildeo, Carrie Etter, Fiona Benson, Rebecca Tamás, Jane Yeh, and Lola Ridge.

Elsewhere there’s a Shout Out for Women’s Day at the Golden Lion pub in Todmorden at “7.30ish”  with top performance poets – and Write Out Loud favourites - Joy France and Laura Taylor. There’s also a special message to those attending – if you’re planning to come along, please bring a pack of sanitary products, and the organisers will make sure they're distributed to local food banks.

If you have an International Women’s Day event coming up let us know at news@writeoutloud.net – and do list it on our free-to-use Gig Guide as well!
