My Aching Back
For those of you of a certain age,
as you sit and read this page.
If you have ever suffered from a bad back,
you may well remember 'Fiery Jack'.
The adverts often did reprise,
that if used regularly it would give ease.
As hot as coals 'Fiery Jack'
hurry up and help my back.
You may have felt it administered with a mighty thwack,
if you complained too often of your ailing back.
Not a gently soothing balm,
but almost something causing harm.
The fire which burns, tolerated for a while;
grimacing inwards while you outwardly smile.
Sneeking off to get a bath;
whilst those downstairs stifle a laugh.

I didn't think I was that old, but I can remember that product being called Fiery Jack. I think it was replaced in the eighties by a product called Algipan.
The one that is available at present is "Deepheat". I don't know if these were all made by the same company, but they all had the same affect.
A cautionary warning, the affect isn't instant. so you tend to think that you haven't put enough on, and re-apply. then when it does kick in you know it.
