The Shopping Mall

The Shopping Mall

A palace of glass and neon lights

Crystal Palace re born in every town

Frenetic figures in high motion

plastic bags clutched by anxious seeking faces

A play ground for the young

a cavern of comfort for a coffee

Signs, posters calling out for

the attention of filled wallets and purses

An Aladdins Cave of treasures for all

trainers, spectacles and boutiques

Marbled floors under canopies of glass

stainless steel and panes of reinforced glass

A bewlidering grotto of temptation and desire

something for all to be had and now

Every taste catered for in a showcase of

immense selection and gaudy colours

Strategically placed as a trap laid

to beguile and entrance the vulnerable

A hall of greed, a breeding

ground for more plastic waste to spew forth

A palace demanding of homage

and conformity in obsequious haste

...and helping to sound the death knell for the High Street.
