Innocence Sold

Innocence Sold

Hands in empty pockets nothing more than a child.
Weighed down, tired, hungry, afraid,
she wondered was this something she could do.
She had nothing of value to sell.

Other than her innocence.

Hands in empty pockets she knew she could,
the irony was not lost on this woman child.
Innocence sold for a ticket home,
back to the place from which she had run.
She felt its pull now.
The need growing with every tick of the station clock.

To her at that moment, the loss was worth the gain.

Thanks Big Sal, as you rightly say whole anthologies could be written on this subject. It was longer, but I felt it detracted from the impact so I shaved it down to make exactly the point I wanted.

Always appreciate your comments. ❤

Entire anthologies could be written on this subject.

Despite being so short, you did very well conveying the emotional weight of a piece so forlorn from most people's minds itself.

Thoughtful, powerful piece Taylor. Props.

A light shining on one of the things we carefully "don't see".

Very profound and sadly true for many a run-away!
Great job!

Thank you Rose, as you say many many women have made these difficult choices during their lives...sometimes the commodity that is themselves is all they have. ❤
