I take on board your relevant comments. Many of them ring true. I may have gone OTT with this piece.
I am tired off all the gloom & doom lately. I am old enough to remember 1966. A winner never quits & a quitter never wins.
I just wish that all footballers were better role models for the youngsters instead of being diving, dirty cheats who would do anything for competitive advantage. It’s a game that has been high jacked by big business. Nothing more and nothing less.

I shudder when I hear sport described in terms of a military campaign - sorry Tom. Commentators do it all the time to the point that it's sadly now the accepted norm - like there are no other analogies available? Col.

I too was there in '66, but what will the country do when all us lot have died off and there are no more glory glory days to hark back to?
