The city and the river

entry picture

Once upon a time,
There was a city,
a blue river was it's veins,
whose water was sweet and pure,
fishes merry and dance in it.

Cool and breezy air pampers the river.
Trees dancing over the celebration of nature,
accompanied by the laughter of kids,
who were sometimes playing
or swimming in the river.

The river was a beautiful heaven,
Yes, it was heart of the city.
Near the river lives a kid Ram,
with his extended family and cousins,
All the kids were happy in there heaven.

Summer vacation was like festival,
kids enjoyed swimming in the river and swings over the tree.
Playing different games together.

When the sun hides and weather gets cooler,
Carnival of evening begins,
Kids enjoys the fest of mango, litchi and watermelon.
Ram's world was showered with innocent celebration of nature and human.

Time flies by and Ram grows up,
and so his cousins.
Kids start leaving the nest,
for job or further studies or simply better opportunity,
with promise to come back every summer.
The heaven was lonely now with river, trees and birds

Time kept flowing and the rendezvous was almost forgotten.
Ram's world was now surrounded by concrete.
Laughter were now formal smile.
Get-together happens now too,
but it was not a connection of heart.

Years later Ram thought to come back to his city,
to meet his cousins and the river,
the trees and enjoy cool breeze
during evening of the summer.
His mind was captured by the
beauty of his city and the river.

When he returned to the city,
the city was changed like him,
River was almost dry and dark in color surrounded by garbage,
trees were replaced by concrete
And the air was harsh and stinky.
The evening was no more a rendezvous of nature but of concrete.

Yes, the city has prospered like him,
Transforming the soul to modern outlook,
Choosing the concrete over nature.
His city is now like a crowded slum,
with dark river which is the heart of city.
