Conversations

You can’t beat a good conversation

Over a friendly beer,

In comfortable surroundings.

Every Friday night we get together,

Me and the lads.

So the Brexit question comes up;

Who was right,

Who was wrong?

What should we do?

But it gets too hard,

So we move on.

Then someone mentions the Health Service;

Why is it struggling ?

Is it underfunded?

Or mismanaged?

Why can’t we get an appointment?

But it gets too hard,

So we move on.

And pensions;

Why do we have to wait longer to retire?

Is it a benefit?

Or a right?

Is the government running a Ponzi scheme?

But it gets too hard,

So we move on.

And we have an in depth discussion

About the important stuff;

Something we all feel strongly about,

Have different opinions on.

Was it a penalty?

That, too, is hard,

But we carry on talking.

Thanks Colin. Yes, that line was a bit clunky and I may well change it. I just put myself under pressure to finish it for the NaPoWriMo thing, so I could start thinking about tomorrow's.

I think it works pretty well Trevor and a great idea for a poem. The only thing I would personally consider changing (if it was my poem) is the 'hard' line. Maybe something like 'but we get nowhere' or 'but it gets too complicated' or 'but we disagree'. Just a thought. All the best, Colin.

Attempted allegory on apathy for Day 12 of NaPoWriMo. Not sure it works though - might need a bit of tinkering.
