The Flowers

The flowers in her garden are wilted and wan

And their petals are starting to spill

Her face that once shone is now wrinkled and drawn

But the light in her eyes lingers still

The bouquet she sees in the vault of her mind

Is the one that she had when they wed

But still it is deep in her mem’ry enshrined

Along with the words that he said

He’d told her that she had put roots in his heart

Her blossom would grow through the years

As he held her and told her that they’d never part

She barely could hold back the tears

So now once again she remembers that smile

And the promise he just couldn’t keep

For though they’d been happy for such a long while

Every day since he’d gone she would weep

Lovely write this, Trev.

It's so difficult innit?! I was actually ashamed of yesterday's effort ? Still, I thought it better to try than to just not bother at all.

Thanks Brian. Yes, struggled for today's. Doesn't bode well for tomorrow!

Trev - this is a great poem, particularly as you're under pressure on this one-a-day NaPo thingy.
