Spring Office Poem

entry picture

Spring is back

and beyond the window

birds are circling lazily

between white clouds and trees

and I can't keep my eyes on

this spreadsheet;

a quarterly assessment

of business achievements,

wanting instead

to document a confession

of our collective failings

or perhaps a database

of our deepest desires

in an attempt to facilitate

a new landscape

of communication

and consider telling this

to the person next to me,

who's heart I do not know,

but who I spend more time with

than anyone I've ever loved,

but think better of it

and instead drink my coffee

and watch the birds

turning soundlessly

beyond the window,

blown by the breeze

on an otherwise

unremarkable day

in the world.

Absolutely lovely Tom. Measured and considered, nothing out of place, an outpouring of sensibility. I love the alliteration of database of our deepest desires, works so well. What you say is unremarkable becomes something more.

very nice tom, i especially like the lines;

who's heart I do not know,

but who I spend more time with

than anyone I've ever loved,
