JEMIMA

My dolly's called Jemima,

she believes in fairy tales.

She comforts me on scary nights

after Mummy's put out the lights.

when I see things on the bedroom door,

hear sounds through cracks beneath the floor.

Jemima tells me it's quite alright,

these are things that happen in the night.

My Mummy seems quite scared as well

at things that upset her in the world;

she says you can't trust anyone,

but I trust Jemima with her stary eyes.

She sees into my heart you see,

I love her and she loves me.

I don't think Mummy likes Jemima,

she says that i'm too old for dolls.

I wish she could find someone to love

to take the place of where Daddy was.

Jemima says that life's a test,

she always seems to know what's best.

Thanks for reading Pat !

You don't scare easily Col. That doll persona has been overdone really; I wanted to bring out the softer side - Hollywood hijacking . My grandson was always scared of clowns though (apart from me of course). Thanks mate.

Spot on Suki. We all need our comforters - my first was a cloth rabbit from Bognor, I called him Boggy. Good thing about dolls, they never die...

Thanks for the likes, and Patricio, it's been a while!

Well, as children, we often were extremely attached to our toys/dolls/bears to the point where they were "animated", so to speak. Often used unconsciously as substitutes to fill the gap for what a child feels is missing - a feeling of safety; a confidante..

You capture it well Ray. nice one!

Reads like the opening dialogue to a scary movie. Does the dolly's head rotate and emit ghastly cries? And what the hell happened to Daddy? Is he under the floorboards? Crikey Ray you've given me the jitters.....C?L
