The Squire of Knotty Ash

entry picture

Up in Heaven God and the Angels await.
For Doddy's arrival at St Peters gate.
Doddy's been called, it was simply his time.
He worked so hard for every laughter line.

In his beloved Knotty Ash, tears they fell.
To the sound of a passsing, mourning bell.
The flags of the City hung at half mast.
As Doddy joined the elite of Heavens cast.

A unique entertainer, and one of our own.
In Knotty Ash he always felt most at home.
He was a man of the people' undeniably so.
Always gave his time with a cheery 'hello'

Now I can picture the applause, the cheer.
And the laughter of Angels I can almost hear.
As Sir Ken plays a new stage way up high.
To the Squire of Knotty Ash, we say 'Goodbye'

I lived by Doddy in Knotty Ash, met Doddy a few time. A lovely gentleman with time for everyone.

I wasn't a Doddy fan, and I wasn't impressed by his tax evasion...but he did stay loyal to his home town, unlike most other Liverpudlians whose accents grow stronger the further away they live.
