CONSIDERATA

Life is a mixed open prison

with one way in and one way out.

Some have bigger more comfortable cells,

but all suffer confinement

with variations of refinement.

So make the best of it -

bring your trinkets to the ball;

celebrate differences;

try to make your stay comfortable,

be friends with the gaoler

if it helps.

If you run screaming round the grounds

there will be support;

illusions of freedom will tempt you,

make the most of them.

Men will play with their toys,

women wlll make notes.

When your cell becomes vacant

go peacefully with freedom

into the everlasting night(sorry, light).

Life can feel like a prison. People do crazy things to try to feel 'free'.
This poem explains the situation very well.
A poetic guide. Well worth several reads.

Hi Kevin, thanks so much for your interest. The Desiderata was a sort of thing people often had hanging on their walls; it fitted with the sixties peace loving vibe I suppose. Mine is a darker bleaker effort, and i'm glad you took something from it!

Ray

Thanks a lot for your likes Graham, Col. Jacqueline and Nicola, much appreciated.

Hi Ray
I had to google Desiderata, and was surprised to find out that it was one i was familiar with (I just didn't know that that was the title)
i liked your take on it. I think we could all learn something from this.

Cheers Kevin
