Season of Tests...

A little poem for all the teachers out there...

Season of Tests

Season of tests and sallow fruitlessness,

Pacing the aisles of shuffling fidget minds

Tapping pens and flicking rulers and the mess

Of scrunched up paper, shavings and the rinds,

Satsumas curling, yellowing skins up turned,

Ink stained fingers, mucky finger nails,

The slow stumble of old ideas new learned.

Some papers passed, plenty more as fails,

Distracted bodies, distracted minds turned to fun.

By chair legs kicked, whispered laughs and hums,

The heavy burden of tasks unfaced, undone,

To put in commas, learn dates or add up sums.

The squirming youths face hours of pain,

Unleashed at three, they scuffle through the rain.

For them school days is nowt but them and us

And throwing paper from the back row of the bus.
