British ?

The British Catholic man was having a chat

with his mate the British Methodist man when

along came the British Hindu man with his friend

the British Buddist man,

conversation was flowing well and the

British Muslim man and the

British Jewish man joined in, but

they all started to boo and hiss when

the British Atheist man tried to join in and

were totally confused when the

British Catholic Buddist man joined in as well.

why do some people have the need to identify themselfs by relgious labels???

As a 'humanist' and committed atheist myself, I have always found it a struggle to 'respect' the ludicrous belief systems of any religion...I like a bit of Buddhism...like the best of 'em...but 'reincarnation'? I don't think so...this admirably sends up the pious obliquity of the religious...without denigrating the obvious sensibility of humanist atheism. I applaud you!

PS, To you 'person's of faith' out there....gaaargh! But I respect your right to be misguided.

I think a need for God is written into the DNA of every human. Many people in the modern age, deny this, of course, as they strive to be gods themselves.

There is nothing new under the sun.

Nice to see the Methodists get a mention in your poem. They were founded by an heroic, romantic man who literally got on his horse and took hope to the confused, the poor and the marginalised of our country.

Your question has so many answers which could be mooted , I hope you get some posts , very interesting. I am trying to think of an answer which does not itself ask a question.

I used to say it was sheer 'one-ups-man-ship', but now I feel it's outright desperation to belong to a socially recognized group that will clearly tell a person what to think, since he/she has lost the incentive to exercise the original capacity.
