WE'RE GOING DOWN TO THE COTSWOLDS

We're going down to the Cotswolds

where the air is fresh and clean;

though Chelsea is our spiritual seat

our other dwelling is rather good

quite isolated by hedges and wood.

The local message is understood

we contribute to the great and good

supporting local stores and our pub

we like to mix and match our life;

Jem is doing well with ponies

Toby and I are joining forces

with the local hunt when time permits.

Jem has got a natural talent

for doing the splits

she has the local boys in fits,

she's starting to accept the simple life

from Daddy working in the City,

his talent is for being gritty

and when the going gets really shitty

we look forward to our Cotswold base

it's like Homes and Gardens, an enchanting place.

Toby has his eye on a farm

that needs investment with planning a given

he needs to occupy himself

that's what he says

so dedicated, so totally driven

and Jem is finding her natural pace

when we go down to our Cotswold place.

Stu, thanks for that reference; you compared my stuff with half man half biscuit before and I must say that pleases me a lot! We all have a certain penchant or knack in our expressive ways and the barmy is what I identify with I suppose. As for John Otway - I checked out a utube clip of House of the Rising Sun, and was quite blown away. So bless you !!

Keith, I'm glad you found favour. Face value is fine with me!

Col. Ever the archivist, you keep us all alert to so many influences out there , so thanks for getting sparked off. My conglomeration of accents was quite bizarre, not intentionally confusing , but to me a trite and shallow personality lay behind it(not mine of course). I was going to do a Sloane accent, but I don't think the money is there any more. They've all moved to the outskirts!

Hi David, more convulsions - I'll try anything you know me. Your story reminds me that I have often met people who in public places do their one upmanship bit inviting yawns all round; but in your quoted case one should be more compassionate to the old in their indulgences. I hope so for my sake.

Love to all Ray

I was wondering what the title reminded me of and Stu's comment prompted the memory of Sham 69's Hurry Up Harry and the chorus line of 'We're going down the pub' although your female narrator doesn't sound like an old punk to me.

In fact I'm not sure what she sounds like - part Polish, part Welsh, part Asian, part Royal? I bet they drive a Chelsea tractor though with spray-on mud for the return journey back to town. Great stuff. The opposite to the Slugshaws perhaps? Col.
