REMOVING THE STOPPER

Nineteen sixty nine was a good year for me,

I take down the bottle so marked

in a special room

remove the stopper

the genie is free

I am twenty five again

refreshed and more alive.

I have become addicted to the bottle

going back to the experimental years

again

again

but   back I go to sixty nine

no one else need know

and yet -

it was a very good year for me

being twenty five

refreshed and more alive.

HI David,

I did warn you about this one! a sort of retribution seems to await all who seek unearned pleasure as when you pull out the stopper - Dorian Gray a fine example of a trade - off. I personally feel we earn the right for a bit of retro indulgence!

Hi Tom. Lovely to know you read this and like it ! Thanks.

HI Col. I do remember your prosecco corks poem - a fine vintage for sure. What goes around comes back to haunt us. Having a third person does lend impact as we know. I like the ref to Sherlock - there is a quality about him that lends itself to introspection , yes !

Love to all. Ray

Morning Ray, I like this very much, the idea of using an object as a reminder. It brought to mind a poem I put on here some time back called 'a lipstick kiss full of hope' which had the character lining up Prosecco corks on her dressing table, one for each year that failed to bring her happiness. A little different to your addiction to the vintage '69 maybe.

with a few alterations I wonder if this poem could also be about Sherlock Holmes?!

cheers
Col
