School Sports Day

 

School Sports Day was a major event

for which there was a very large tent

In fact Mrs Smith said it was a Marquee

behind which was a place for us to pee

 

The day took place in a local park

and each running lane had been given its mark

Mrs Burrows was in charge of First Aid

behind a trestle table appropriately laid

 

Several races were due to take place

beginning with the three legged race

During which several fights broke out

as spectators began to laugh and shout

 

The egg and spoon race was soon underway

an awkward event and inadviseable to sway

Then came the long awaited relay race

until the Headmaster said there was not enough space

 

The park was left in the most awful mess

and most could not have cared less

The annual event was over and done

with a few prizes that had been valiantly won
