Farewell

entry picture

Stayed up late until the early morning hours

Drinking whisky by the light of the silvery moon

Thinking about the golden times we had

Now I’m surrounded by an eternal gloom

The sun always shone in your smiling eyes

Rain clouds always seemed to pass you by

I used to be on a natural high all day long

Now I sit all alone and wonder why

Played a record to while away the blues

A tune that we both remembered well

The turntable of life roles relentlessly on

What does the future hold – only time will tell

Goodbye so long farewell

It’s the final curtain for me and you

We both know that the truth doesn’t lie

Time for us to leave the empty stage

Take our final bow and seek brighter skies

New horizons are beckoning for us

A new performance is ready to debut

We can have stars in our eyes once more

Our searching souls will no longer be blue

Step by positive step – one day at a time

A fresh start and a journey brand new

Our hearts will continue to ache

It’s a chance that we both must take

Goodbye so long farewell

Your poems are always touching, Tom and this is no exception. You just know how to hit the spot. This one is sad but leaves room for a future - a good philosophy.
